So I'm looking at my grades and it looks like I qualify for UCI's TAG, but my GPA is a 3.30 as of summer 2012 and this will my third year going to a Community College before transfer. I can complete IGETC this Fall, but I'm taking English 1B at another college because it is 3 units instead of going to my local college which is 4 units Writing 2, but due to financial aid and EOPS, I have to drop English 1B and take it next Spring.

Does it look good if I have only complete 59.5 units; all prerequisite for Psychology and Social Behavior, except for Intro to Criminology, Law & Society because none of the Colleges in Irvine, California offer it; and complete IGETC, except for English 1B, which is critical thinking by Fall 2012?

Does it look bad if I take English 1B in Spring 2013? I have an A in Writing 1, so I'm a good enough writer. Again, this is for UCI. I will have 72.5 units completed by the end of Spring 2013 and 2.5 units are pass while the other 70 units are letter grades. Does this look good?

If you haven’t completed 1b then you haven’t completed IGETC. But since you already completed your first writing class and your math, taking it in spring is fine.

It doesn’t look bad that you will have to take English 1B in Spring. It might keep you from TAG-ing to some schools, but it shouldn’t otherwise be a problem. Units don’t matter as long as you will have at least 60 done by the end of Spring. Also, don’t forget that UCs include Fall in your GPA when you update your application, so there is still time to bring that GPA up. You obviously don’t need to for UCI if you qualify for TAG (make sure that you do), but it could help you with other schools.

I have the '13-'14 TAG Matrix in front of me and it says UCI’s completion deadline for English Composition courses (UC-E) is Fall 2012 for the first UC-E course and Spring 2013 for the second UC-E course. I think you’re ok but I would email UCI to be sure or contact your counselor.

^No You can complete your IGETC by Spring before the Fall you transfer (any class). Don’t need to email UCI or contact your counselor, common FAQ
