My school doesn't offer in OR ap
classes, and I don't want to take online ap
classes (don't want to be homeschooled)...will the absence of ap and ib classes on my application ruin my chances of getting into ivy league (namely harvard, Yale, u of Penn), even if I have near perfect test scores, great ecs, and stellar grades?

Oops…my iPod auto corrected ib to in…my bad…also…any programs abroad that offer university cred? ( I’m Canadian btw, and I’m in 8th grade)

Harvard will view the rigor of your academic profile in the context of the curriculum provided by your high school. It may reflect favorably upon you to self-study AP courses once in high school (and to take the exams in May). Although you explicitly expressed disinterest in online Advanced Placement enrollment, it may actually be advisable if you or your family is willing to pay the expense of the courses and if you have time outside your normal academic, extracurricular, and personal schedule. You may wish to select AP topics of genuine interest to study beginning in your sophomore year if you are not quite accustomed to the workload and general expectations of high school courses.

Thanks…I’ll check out the AP online courses…I live near U of T [toronto] and was wondering if I could take courses there…any ideas? And also, if I chose not to take AP or IB classes, and only took the most rigorous classes available to me at my school [ie. algerbra 2, physics, university english] could I still get into Harvard/ Ivy league, with great test scores and ecs?

No. Harvard and all other top schools only view you in the context of your school. If you do take anything online, it will better though. They want to see that you can max out your academic possibilities in high school.
