Does it matter if you go to a university from community college or straight to a university from hs?

I heard that it doesn’t matter if you go from high school straight to a university or community college to a university. Then why does everyone go to the university they want to straight from high school? Isn’t community college (atleast here in Orange County, CA) is cheaper than getting your minor in a university? I can do my minor in a community college then move to a university of my choice as a transfer student to do my major. Why doesn’t everyone else do that instead of paying more for their minor?

Not everybody has a minor?
Not all universities end up being cheaper than CC?
Some people can pay full price?
Some people want the university experience for four years?

Sometimes the transition from community college to university can be tough. Depending on where you live, the university courses can be a lot more rigorous than CC courses.

@annana . while that’s true, it’s not universally true by any measure. Many CCs work in conjunction with rigorous universities and colleges, like Cornell and Vassar and the UC system. Also, some CCs offer small classes for tough core courses, which is something that big universities can’t offer. You get help directly from the professor and sometimes the classes at CCs are smaller than public high school classes.

some students receive big scholarships that are for freshmen only, and would not be available if they went to CC for a year or two. in many cases the scholarships would make the 4-year university less expensive than the 2-yr CC+ 2-yr Uni path.

some students roll up a bunch of credits in HS so they can go straight to University and graduate in 2-3 years.

my D is doing CC+University, and my son will go straight to University since he should get his Associates at the same time he graduates HS.

but you are right, for many, many students the path you outlined may be the best option but many do not consider it.
