Does it matter what major I choose in the beginning?

I currently have lots, actually too many, of things I want to do. For instance, business, english, and sociology. But I'm planning to take some of these classes during my first two years at UNC (if i get accepted) and then choose during my junior year. Does it matter what I state as my major on my application? Like for instance, if I write English in the beginning but decide to pursue business during my junior year, is that fine?
Or do I need to do some major transfering?

Chosing your major is not important as an incoming freshman- your first year is made up mostly of Gen Eds. Most important is to make sure the college you choose to attend has all the major programs you are interested in. For example, you don’t want to go in as an English major, then decide to switch to business only to find out the college you’re attending does not have a business school.

The advantage to declaring your major on your application is that you could be directly admitted to the program. You’ll gain access to an advisor within the program and can start taking courses directly related to your major right away.

Changing your major after a year or two is usually not a big deal as long as you keep up your grades in college. A downside is that you may add time in college if you need to take additional pre-reqs or if classes do not overlap.

You’re under no obligation to major in what you wrote on your application. You don’t have to declare a major until your junior year. The only immediate consequence of listing a major on your app is that during orientation you’ll be put into a group with people who have similar interests.
