Like on the chance me threads I hear people saying "I live in Northern Virginia" and different parts of Virginia.

Does it matter what part of Virginia you come from? I don't see why that would matter as long as you live in Virginia.

I live in Virginia Beach (Southern) so I don't know if that's good or not.

being in NOVA supposedly screws you over because of how many applications come from each VA high school - may or may not be true

They say no, but someone told my son they were admitted only because they were from coal mining country in the far SW corner of the state.

being anywhere in VA is better than being out of state..
= (

who knows.

I live in Hampton Roads and only know a few ppl accepted to WM

i'm a freshman and just by talking with people here, it seems like it is more competitive to get in here if you're from NOVA. The people from other parts of VA still worked really hard and had great grades, but more people seem to be interested in applying here that live in NOVA.

geographical diversity is in the interest of the school (or, they think it is).

Almost every high school from northern va will have 5+ students at WM in each class. And northern va is an academic (and economic) powerhouse.
