When playing a sport is not related to receiving an athletic scholar, does it matter what sport you play to colleges. Ex. Is it better to play football or basketball vs. golf or squash?
Probably not- if you want to do a sport, do one you enjoy.
Sports, unless a recruited athlete, are just like any other EC with the qualifier that being in a competitive sport usually requires a much greater time commitment (in-season, anyway) than many other ECs, a fact most AOs will recognize (whatever they do with that, if anything). In that sense, participating in a sport is akin to being very involved in another activity–not “better” in any sense. Being a team captain in a sport is essentially just like being an officer of some sort in any other club.
Nope…it doesn’t matter. Like others say, for non recruited athletes it is just another EC. One that is fun, keeps you in shape, and lets you meet people.

Whatever sport you like and which you can achieve to the highest level in.
I.e. if you like two sports equally, but you can be locally competitive in one, but nationally competitive in the other, the latter may be more impressive as an extracurricular to a college admission reader.
