As the title of my topic states: how important is the University that I will go to achieve my undergrad degree? Does attending a well-known or top ranking university improve my chances in order to get into a grad school?

Background: I plan to become a optometrist or pharmacist one day in the future, and right now I currently have my mind set to major in Biology at UCI or UCLA. However, can I still achieve my Biology degree and get accepted into grad school if I attend a regular Cal State college or a cheap private university? My goal is to save as much money possible for the future. Any feedback or tips will be much appreciated! :)

It probably doesn’t matter as much as your gpa and the right pre-reqs for the right Pharm colleges. But I’m not the best person to ask. One thing to think about is if you don’t end up going either route because of the jobs outlook.

Do some reading in the Pre-Pharm and Pharm forum

You are in the right place if you choose to go to a state school. Most of the UC system routinely rank high nationally. The Cal State system has some great options for all types of majors too. Keep doing your homework. Find out what schools have the most to offer your long term goals. If you have your eye on certain grad schools, consider contacting them with your questions.
