If I applied asap (Jan 1) for the ss, would it give me any upper hand against those who apply close to or at the deadline (March 15)? The reason I ask is that If I wait towards the end I will have my latest scores to send in, which will be a lot better than my current scores. Also, on academyadmissions.com it says that test scores are required, but I have read of many people who apply and get into the ss without sending their scores. So which is it? Thanks

The earlier the better. They will fill slots quickly, and if you have your app ready you'll stand a better chance. Daughter went to AFSS and NASS. She was turned down by USMA becuase the app went in to late. USMA just offered her an appointment to 2011. Funny how things work.

Also, your file stays open so you can update your scores later when they improve (hopefully). You are really better off to go early.

Apply early for SS. Your scores will be self-reported and can be updated later. It has been discussed here before that the applications for SS are divided into four cohorts. The most qualified quarter are accepted almost immediately. The least qualified are rejected. The middle half may be asked to interview with an ALO or meet other criteria. Don't be discouraged if you're not accepted to SS. Likewise, don't think you've got it made just because you get accepted. There's still a lot of work to be done either way.

Yes, you should apply earlier than later because it's a rolling admissions process. And about the test scores, I didn't talk to anyone else at SS who didn't send theirs in, or (in my case) hadn't even taken a college board test. You don't want to be in that category. ;)
