does it matter when you accept ur acceptance? does it affect housing or other stuff?

Basically, UCB is the only good school i got into as far as rankings and all. Soo im pretty sure ill go there unless something REALLY bugs me but im pretty sure it'll be fine. however, ive signed up to go see it on april 16 so if i need to apply early to get a better housing program, then i'll do it.

ive read that its random so idk..i guess some more ppl can reassure me with that. also would it affect ANYTHING else?

Does not matter for housing. All students who sign up by the deadline will be thrown into a hat, given a lottery number and then preferences addressed in order of the lottery position. No benefit at all to early SIR or early housing application, as long as you meet the deadlines.

About the only time-sensitive thing at Cal is space in the FPF program for Spring Admits who want to take classes on campus in Fall.

what’s fpf? im not a spring admit but just wondering cuz i keep seeing it

FPF is the Fall Program for Freshmen. In other words, it’s an extension program for spring admits. My sister had to take that last year and I don’t really know the specifics of it, but she told me through the FPF program, she just started working on her GEs rather than wasting her fall away doing nothing until spring.

not something the spring admits ‘have’ to take, but an opportunity to reside in Berkeley and make the same progress towards your degree as any fall admit. Although it involves classes at the extension (adult and community education) rather than Berkeley itself, they are fully transferred to your transcript in Spring. Thus, spring admits can graduate at the same time as a fall admit.

Spring admits could also go to a different college for Fall. Most CCs are trimester system, not semesters like Cal, which makes it harder to earn equivalent units (you really only can take the Fall trimester at those schools since the Cal spring semester begins during the midst of the Winter trimester at other schools). However, if you take classes at another school whose classes are accepted by UCB, you can do the same thing as FPF but from a different location. You don’t get the sense of being on campus and mingling with your peers right from fall, but it can provide other benefits like lowering costs for fall.

Spring admits can also do nothing, go on a world tour, get a job and build up money for school, or anything else they want in fall, no penalties. They start in spring with fewer units than most spring admits and might be graduating a semester later than otherwise, but if that is of interest, it is permitted too.

You only need to meet the SIR deadline. Same for housing; housing is assigned using a lottery system, so you are fine as long as your application goes in before the deadline.
