I picked Muir as my first choice but got into Marshall. It’s my second choice.
My major is Physiology and Neuroscience

Muir is the best (even if Pines isn’t anywhere close to Summit awesomeness). Isn’t too hard to finish your GE requirements freshman year because they’re basically all lower div (AP credit-able). And them ocean views from the top floors of Tioga are unforgettable. Made my year.

Can someone explain the different GEs I would have to complete in Muir vs Warren as a BioE major?

Hey, I was accepted as an Econ. major at Warren College (2nd choice). I didn’t really look into it that much besides looking at what CC said were the best colleges. Now that I am looking at it, most people at Warren seem to be engineering students and nothing against engineering students, but I am not sure if I want to be surrounded by mostly engineers. I just don’t know if I would fit in or be better in somewhere that is more diverse in its areas of study. Let’s be honest, there is probably also a lower % of girls as well… What % of Warren do you guys think is engineering students?

@AndrewL: Haha, nice! It’s so rare to see other economics majors, but it’s not too bad.

@fastsauce: Don’t worry! There IS an overwhelming amount of engineers/science majors, but it doesn’t really change things. There are plenty of girls as well haha; I’m sure UCSD tries to keep that even when admitting students into certain colleges. Most of my suite are some sort of engineering/science major, and I’m one of the few social science/humanities people her. It’s not hard to fit in at all as an economics major, and it can sometimes be an interesting conversation point to say you’re an econ major in Warren! :P

Alright thanks Adamantoise. I am hoping to get into cal, ucla, or usc, but if not, ucsd is probably where I will be.

hey guys the college you get into really doesn’t matter, everyone ends up loving their college. The college is also irrespective of majors, although more pre med majors apply to revelle and engineers to marshall/warren due to G.E’s, but it honestly is no different. I would say that Muir is the best for any major due to the simplest G.E requirements, but others aren’t far behind.

Hmm. I’m a CS Major and my first choice was Warren. I got Revelle. (Revelle was third choice) I don’t really mind the GEs (they seem interesting, and I really enjoy writing despite being a CS major). What is the comparison between Warren and Revelle in terms of GEs for a CS major… I might attend and having the context would be good.

Super hard to transfer…sorry. My daughter got into Revelle (and graduated from Revelle last June) but it was NOT the right college for her! She survived however, and graduated in 4 yrs cum laude…it will work out!

So my son applied aerospace engineering, but was accepted to sixth as undeclared. It’s probably silly for him to attend and try to get into aero, right???

@HyungryFroad
Revelle has a good amount of GE’s while Warren GE’s get cut by 6 courses if you’re an engineer. Your best bet is to look them up and seeing what you are required to take. (Warren engineers need to do Area Studies rather than Programs of Concentrations)

@RPVMom
The college your son attends has nothing to do with his major. It’s just generally that most engineers prefer warren because of easier GE requirements but I’ve met plenty from other colleges, sixth included.

If your son believes he can pull out a good GPA after his first year, he shouldn’t have too much of a problem getting into Aerospace Engineering. They don’t care if you’re Warren, Sixth, Revelle, etc. No reason of not attending UCSD because you didn’t get into the college of your choice. (Other UC’s may have even more GE requirements)

So I just got accepted to ERC as undeclared, which was my 5th choice for the colleges. I have two questions:
-are the 6 college choices based on the strength of our app? In other words, was my application weak compared to others, which was why I was given my 5th choice?
-will choosing undeclared hurt my chances of switching to a bio major? (I want to go to med school)

I was accepted as a joint econ and math major to muir. It was my first choice because I heard it was hardest to get into, but was it a bad decision for my major?

@light shining

It’s not a bad choice. It’s the “hardest” to get into because the most people apply for it. That’s all.

@fastsauce

Warren is like 60/40 guys to girls. I honestly don’t know what percentage are engineers but it can’t by much higher than 50% if over 50% at all. My best friend is an econ major in Warren. And trust me, I think you’ll be fine living with engineers if that’s who you get roomed with. Engineers are people too you know…
