Son applied for Comp Engr, now wondering if he should have gone undeclared for better chances. Does it matter?

The official answer is “no”, though it is known that some majors have much higher demand than others. When you consider the demand/capacity ratio for programs like BME, you’d have to assume that the selected major does play a role.

Son chose CompE in the college of engineering, I am wondering if he should have chosen College of Computing. I am not sure if there was choice 1 choice 2 on the app. Results due tomorrow, fingers crossed.

About 1/3 of students change major. They don’t take major into account. No evidence to contrary. Plenty of BME students get into BME, but then some change out . . .

Major does matter for transfer admissions, so you have to assume that it plays at least some role in freshman admissions, as well, despite the official policy of it not playing a role at all.
