Okay so it's about that time where I go around begging teachers to exaggerate my mediocre qualities. But I have a little dilemma. I'm almost positive that the two teachers that will write me the best recommendations are my English and World/APUSH teachers, but I've heard that selective schools want letters from teachers of two very different fields (like English and math for example). Is this true? It kind of sucks if it is, because my math teacher for soph/jr years doesn't like writing rec letters, I dislike my soph Chem teacher (but he kinda likes me), and my jr physics teacher is crazy old man (but he's also president of my school). So what do you guys think I should do?

Some schools specify that they want 1 math/science and 1 humanities/social science. But if they do not, English and History are fine. Go to the college websites, they will state if specific areas of study are required or if they just want them from any two academic subjects.

Okay cool thanks! If a school doesn’t say specifically what kind of teachers they want recommendations from, I it safe to assume they don’t really care? It won’t hurt me in the admissions process at all (by not showing my “well-roundedness”)? Just making sure!

If they don’t specify, they don’t care as long as they’re in a academic subjects. I would not recommend sending 2 from the same discipline. However, as long as they’re from different subjects, IMO strength of the LOR trumps well-roundness.

Okay awesome! Thanks again!
