Do colleges care how many students they accept from the same HS?

i.e. would they pick one or two students from the same school, then reject others (even if others met admissions standards)

the official answer is always no, but you gotta think they're not going to take a bunch of kids from the same HS unless its one of their feeders.

so does it give you an advantage if you're the only one applying from your school? like, i'm almost positive i'm the only person from my hs applying to notre dame...

I don't think it gives you an advantage unless the college has been dying to snag a kid from your school or geographical location and hasn't for several years and you look good to them. But at least you are not at a disadvantage. A disadvantage would be if 12 people from your school apply to the same school as you and you are ranked #12 out of that group and there is nothing about you that differentiates you from ##1-11 and the college cannot accept 12 kids from one school. Even if they just think you're cute, if they only take 3, how do they explain to your GC why they took #1, #2 and #12? LOL.

ok thanks--just wondered, cuz i live in sticksville and no one else cares about notre dame...you say the name around here and all that comes to mind is football, if that.

While interviewing at Bates College, I was told by my interviewer that my biggest competition would be from other people from my school. Nobody else has applied to Bates in the last 3-4 years but I assume that she meant that the college was unlikely to accept two individuals from the same high school.

That seems so unfair. I have a couple of people to compete against in my school. One of them will definitely get into any school, as she is really good in an ec that she doesn't even want to pursue in college...

Do places like HYPMS only take abt 1 person from small states (like, say, Arizona)? If so, I most definitely won't be getting into Harvard or MIT :(
