Does it really hurt your chances of getting into a school if you...

if you don't have all the major pre-requisites done by the time you apply?

From my understanding and according to the each UC website, you have until the spring to finish everything you need.

I'm a psychology major and my top choice is UCLA. I only need one more class (chemistry or physics)I won't be able to take that class until the spring though. However, I'm taking other psych classes this fall (related to my major, but not the ones listed as pre-requisites). The counselor told me that UCLA likes to see that you're involved in activities related to your major (internships, volunteering, or more classes in your field of study)

so is it really gonna affect my chances of getting in?

also i'm gonna have all the pre-requesites for my alternate major done by this fall if that matters.

no, you’re totally fine. that shouldn’t be a problem whatsoever, especially in the case you just outlined. as long as you report that you will have that one class done, you should be fine in this regard.

The chemistry/physics class is just for the IGETC physical sciences requirement? I agree, you should be fine. Major prereqs are key, but IGETC isn’t. Just be sure to be certified by the deadline in June.

No, the chemistry/physics is a major requirement , and that’s the only one I need and I’m done.

I’m already finished with IGETC

The number of major prereqs completed by fall does play a role in admissions decisions, but not having one won’t result in an automatic rejection. Make your essay as persuasive and GPA as competitive as possible.
