Does it really matter if you AP, IB or mix?

I'm currently taking a mix (and ppl have warned against taking IB unless I'm doing the diploma)

I'm basically taking IB languages (English and Chinese) and then all other stuff are APs.

I just don't like how AP splits up english into language and literature and for chinese ap chinese is a joke.

i can still change back to all APs + ap lang and then IB chinese (ib chinese is staying fosho)

oh yea, both are HLs

thanks

I go to an IB school that has a full AP curriculum as well. Even though the official word is that mixing is fine, the IB coordinator told me privately that it’s better not to mix. I’m just passing that onto you, but I don’t know her reasons for saying it.

IB English HL is a two year class that basically covers the same material as does AP Lang/Lit, I’ve heard. Also, at my school, kids who take IB English are encouraged to take the AP English exams as well. The way it’s taught to us, the first year of IB English is roughly equivalent to AP Lit and the full course (end of two years) is good preparation for the AP Lang exam. I do know that many colleges in the US are still wary of the IB program, and many only accept AP exam scores for credit. If you want college credit, AP is probably the way to go, but only if you’re confident you’ll do well on the exam. Do remember, though, that you’re only offered credit for ONE AP English course, be it Lang or Lit.

My personal advice to you would be to talk it over with your IB coordinator and ask her advice on it. It sounds like you want to avoid AP Lang, so based on that I’d suggest taking IB English SL and then AP Lit as a senior. In any case, you seem like you have a rigorous schedule anyway. Mixing won’t matter in the long run, so if you’re comfortable where you are, stay!

I agree with this. You may want to look into the specific credit policies of the colleges you’re interested in, also.
