Does it snow in Durham?

I know it's a dumb question, but it's something I've been wondering.

EDIT: All I had to do is google "Duke snow" instead of "Durham".

You can ignore this post now.

well... does it?

It snows occasionally. It doesn't really accumulate, but Durham has gotten a few inches at a time in the past. This past winter it didn't snow at all when classes were in session, I don't know what happened over winter break. It rains a lot though.

It hasn't snowed yet this year. We've had ice storms before where we've been out of power for 8 days, and then on occasion, we get things like this: http://photos-n-04.facebook.com/n5/345/n1401720003_30000345_9109.jpg
http://photos-n-04.facebook.com/n5/343/n1401720003_30000343_4039.jpg

Sometimes there's just one day where we get half an inch or something, and then it doesn't snow at all the rest of the winter, and sometimes we get snowstorms in April. The winters here are very mercurial...this January was the second warmest January in history (warmest in fifty years). The Chronicle had photos of people lying in the Gardens in shorts. It's very variable. You're likely to see some fair amount of snow at some point if you're here for the next four years.

^
Was that from about 2-3 years ago? I remember we had about two feet of snow. It was awesome. :D

Normally we get 0-1" a year, but every 5-6 years or so we get a big snow.

thanks guys :)

It was more like six or seven years ago...I was a fifth or sixth grader.

It's snowing! Well...we're getting a few snowflakes. Better than nothing.

I'm from New England and the fact that it barely snows in NC is honestly part of why I applied ED.

lol. people were freaking out over the 15 flurries we got today. ha...ha.

Snow is pretty until it melts. Id rather have sun 24/7.

We got a lot of snow this time around, but I live much closer to the Asheville area (mountains) than I do the Durham area.

But I know that Charlotte gets very little snow. If you're from Maryland or above, you won't even notice it!

I'm from New England too, but I kind of miss the snow... though I'm glad I don't have to deal with what they got up north this past weekend, like 30 inches in NYC or something. This past winter vacation I had to shovel my driveway 4 separate times, and I was only at home for 3 weeks. But at least it's pretty...

YES! (coming from a fellow New Englander)
It's definitely one of the many reasons why Duke is near the top of my list.

It snowed 4-5 inches in Durham on Presidents' Weekend of '04--we had come down with our s for his first look at Duke, and it was so beautiful with the wet snow covering everything!! But he is just as happy that it is a rare occurance. We just got a foot of snow in this weekend's nor'easter!
