Question is in the title..
but to expand on it.....I was wondering when Jester filled up..
Apparently its the dumping ground for people who don't get in anywhere else..
but its location is also very convenient so it might fill up very fast T^T... (Judging by the topics..I may be the only one that wants to get into these musty jail cell rooms..but this is starting to worry me)

Am I late for getting into Jester West or East? =X

Also..I was wondering on the difference between the Application and the Contract..
I submitted the app. a while ago...like december-january....
but I haven't put down my deposit and signed that housing contract...
Which one do they use in the first come first serve process? =X

i didn’t apply for housing until late february and i got dumped into jester. they will find room for you somewhere; they stick 4 people into the jester study lounges when they run out of rooms. with 3 perfect roommates, that is a pretty sweet deal considering the rooms are so big.

you need to sign the contract asap, because that is the one they use.

and seriously, what’s with the jester hate at UT? the rooms are not jail cells. they are much larger and have more storage than dorms you will see at a lot of campuses. it is also close to everything.

Jester is NOT close to everything. Jester is really far from most things in the campus area. You have to get over thinking of the actual grounds of campus as the focal area of campus life or your experience is going to be really limited.

I wouldn’t want to stay anywhere where the beds are built into the wall and retract to make a “couch.” Plus the halls smell like ****.

i stayed in jester for a high school conference (non-ut related) and found the rooms to be ok. plenty of closet space and it’s great having a sink. elevator rides are annoying (a friend of mine said she got trapped in one once).

there’s 4 bus stops within 5 minutes of jester. if you can’t walk, you can certainly get anywhere you want to be without much effort. i walk to 24th or DK at least 4 times a day from jester, and that walk would suck that much more if i lived in san jac. the only closer (large) dorm is duren, and that is out of the question for the poster.

the beds retracting are a plus. they give you twice the bed size for half the space.

and yes, jester is very close to most of the food near the campus. it has lots of places to eat within itself, and the walk up to the drag where a lot more restaurants are is only a few minutes.

yes, it is the app, not the contract that determines priority. get that app turned in as soon as possible. as long as you get your contract in by July 1, you’re good.

You need to sign the contract by the deadline they give you when they send you the contract. (They will send you the contract after you accept admission.)

oh right, sorry, i was thinking about picking dorms and all. i think the contract gives you two weeks-ish to get that turned in so be sure you’ll be attending UT before you get the contract.

Don’t believe everything you read. Jester is not that bad. Not the best, but I have seen several apartments that are in FAR worse condition than this hall. And hey, at least your bathrooms get cleaned fairly often. And by a professional staff instead of… you. That’s always a plus.

Jester > Dobie.

If you do end up having to live off campus because you didn’t get a contract. Steer clear of The Castillian and Dobie. You have been warned.

Jester is one of our most popular and highly requested halls.

Room assignments are based on when the housing application was completed.

Your contract must be turned in before the expiration date on the contract.

Your building and roommate preferences must be selected before July 1.

All of the halls fill up, when they do, students are placed in supplemental housing in San Jacinto or Jester. There is also supplemental space in Blanton and Kinsolving.

Jester is the largest hall, 3,000+ beds. This is why you can usually get a space in Jester.

to answer your question KMad, once you get a housing contract and are given a room for your freshman year, you have the first priority in room availability for the next year. So, if you choose to stay on campus all four years, you will always have a room.

As for numbers, I personally do not know that many people that are planning on staying on campus all 4 years. (Most of my friends, myself included, moved to off campus apartments after 1 year in the dorm. Particularly because depending on where you lease, it ends up being cheaper than living in the dorm anyway.)
