Ive read that absences on your high school transcript can possibly raise red flags to colleges. What might you consider an excessive amount of absences?

Im currently a valedictorian and plan on applying to BME, but I must admit that I didnt mind taking days off from school when I felt too tired or a little sick, since it obviously did not affect my performance. Absences just dont seem to matter too much at my school, as long as you have below 9 each semester in order to exempt exams. Additionally, many of my teachers did not even bother to take attendance, which makes it look as if I skipped
.

Big mistake?

I set my high school record for absences and 1st period tardies and I had no problems with colleges. I think you'll be fine.

Every part of an applicant's high school transcript will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee, and that includes number of absences. There is no set number of absences that will raise concern. We will though strongly consider if a trend of excessive absences or unexcused absences is noted along with other signs of a student's negative attitude towards classes. The review of the transcript is not just about performance.

Basically my average semester would look like (7, 5, 4, 4, 5, 6), and this trend is pretty much the same throughout high school. I probably miss around 14 days a year or 8% of school.
