At my school, it’s a pretty competitive place and 6 kids from a class of about 360-380 are applying ED to Penn. I am the only one applying to Wharton and the other 5 are applying to the College of Arts and Sciences. I know that when people apply to the same school from the same HS, they are in effect competing with each other. How much of an impact does it have for people applying to different schools within the same university?

Also, should I plan to retake a Math IIC 720?? I got 800 SAT Math, 750 Math IC, strait As in most challenging HS math classes, and do math competitions like AMC-12, AIME, and USA Mathmatical Talent Search. I’m worried a 720 for Wharton is big big minus on my application even though I have a really strong math background (I guess I messed up on the 2c test).

It's definitely not a big minus. Your SAT I and IC show that you're at least capable of doing some maths, as well as your qualification for the AIME :) Don't retake unless you're sure you can get a 780 or 800.. if you are, well, why not?

Yea I have this question too actually. There are like 5 or so kids applying to Penn ED this year from my school. I'm applying to SEAS, and Im pretty sure Im the only one. Im most concerned two other kids. The Val is applying to wharton though, and numero 20 is applying to CAS (but he has legacy)..Im number 13. Also theres another girl whos like 25 applying probably to CAS but she has a ****load of service so she is competition to. But does it really matter that much since we are all at diff schools.

It does matter; believe it or not, as ridiculous and unfair as it sounds, schools do have a certain # of kids they accept per school. Our college counselor said this and I believe a rep from Cornell did as well...

Yes, it will... it's much easier for good math students to score high on the IIC than the IC--the curve on the IC is ridiculous, so if you're prone to making silly mistakes, you'll bomb the IC. Admissions officers know this.

Hmm.. this is perhaps a little weird.. but I'm one of 3 kids who applied ED to wharton.. the other two aren't top 50%.. one is an incredible runner.. and the other is .. i dunno.. perhaps rich / legacy or something? i dont really know.. is that somewhat weird?

It depends on what school you're going to.. if you're going to a normal public school, it's really odd for people who aren't top 50% to be applying to Ivies at all (I think the figure is top 50% of kids at public schools go to college or something)
