<p>I'm a Legacy at Swat, applying RD. I originally didn't want to apply here, but after visiting, I changed my mind and now it's one of my top 5 choices. But I was wondering what the benefit of being a legacy at Swarthmore would be to getting admitted?</p>
<p>Also, how do I prove on my application that I really want to go to this school (which I do) without seeming like I just applied here because I am a legacy and might have a better shot?</p>
<p>Yes. Legacy can help if you are an otherwise qualified, interested candidate.</p>
<p>The best way to demonstrate interest is to answer the "Why Swarthmore?" question in a way that shows you have invested the time to learn about what makes the college special. The Dean of Admissions covered this in a Q&A last winter. He said they really like answers that go beyond the campus or the location or the academic reputation and provide specific reasons. I've read several really good approaches to this question.</p>
<p>If you looking for ideas about what makes Swarthmore tick, I would recommend reading "The Meaning of Swarthmore" essays. You can find them on the "Alumni" page of the website. They were probably mailed to your mom or dad in book form, as well.</p>

<p>Yeah I think my dad received those essays a while back, I'll try to read them before writing the Why Swarthmore essay. Since he went there, I know some specifics of the school, and I already have a decent Common App essay, so I'll see what I can do.</p>
