Does live in MA a disadvantage to get into top schools?

<p>Because there are too much elite high schools in MA, so is that a disadvantage for the students in MA to get into top schools like MIT and Harvard?</p>

<p>Having poor grammar will be a disadvantage, but living in MA wouldn't. It may, however, be a tipping point if the adcom is on the fence about your application, and they've already accepted a ridiculous amount of people from MA.</p>

<p>Living in MA is a disadvantage at schools in Maine (Colby/Bates/Bowdoin), VT, NH, CT, and probably MA. Otherwise no. It might be an advantage at Duke or Stanford.</p>

<p>Agree with MA kids having a disadvantage getting into Maine LAC's. They are small to begin with, and their relative proximity makes them attractive.</p>

<p>D had 2300 SAT's, lots of EC's, superb candidate--accepted by Colgate and U-Rochester, but not Colby. Gotta believe she's a shoe-in if she lived further away.</p>
