Does living in New York give you a better chance for making NYU/Cornell?

Just wondering!

No. State residency doesn’t count.

It could help at Cornell, depending on which college you applied to. Three of their schools are supplemented with state funds, and therefore they have to accept a certain percentage of NY residents. You still have to be a great applicant though. Which college did you apply to?

Oh right! The land grant colleges! Yeah maybe those can somewhat help.

I’m not applying yet as I’m only a Junior, but I’m interested in the College of Arts and Sciences at Cornell!

CAS doesn’t care where you come from really.

At Cornell, if you applied to CALS, CHE, or ILR, being in-state can help a little. For Cornell’s other colleges and for NYU, being in-state does not give any admissions boost. In fact, it may have a slight adverse affect if they are trying to increase geographic diversity since they get many qualified students from NY. This is just speculation though, and I wouldn’t worry about it.
