Does location help with getting admitted?

I'm from Georgia and i was wondering if that would help at all with admissions since I read on their website that only 5% are from the southeast... i also play hockey which is unusual for a georgian
??? anyone

All things being equal (gpa, sats) you're probably better off coming from Georgia than suburban New york. Good luck

Being from Georgia is certainly much more helpful than being from some other states (New York, New Jersey, PA, etc), but not as helpful as being from states like N/S Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, etc. It's all relative. Generally being from a lesser-populated state will give you an advantage over applicants from heavily-populated states.

Hmm. I'd be inclined to say it helps to come from a less populated area, but then again, yale accepted a greater percentage of applicants from NY than it did from the whole early pool (24% as compared to 20%). So either way, it probably doesn't make a HUGE difference. It's about you as an individual!
