does major makes a difference in admission?

When you are applying to Cornell, you are just applying to a specific college right? Does choosing a popular major hurts your chances? I just want to go to the Art and Sciences College. Will choosing a popular major makes it harder for me to get in?

It can. They don’t want to admit a **** ton more bio majors than they already do.

What’s really important is that you have a dedicated interest in your major. I was lucky. I put philosophy as my major, and now I’m a bio major. I’ve always been a science guy, my test scores reflect that (as well as my inept reading skills) so I’m not quite sure how I got past that, other than the fact that I did have some fairly good essays.

i want to do like a duo Economic-Philosophy, Economic-Statistic or Math-Philosophy. <-Are those majors hard to get into?
P.S.

Econ maybe. Math and Philosophy, probably not too bad.

But remember, what major you put isn’t going to get you in or get you rejected. Your application as a whole is what will get you in, not whether you picked a certain major or not, because they know most people will change anyway.

Just put whatever it is you’re interested in and hope for the best. I guess if it came down to two different ones, pick the more obscure one, but beyond that, it’s negligible.

how about sociology?
