Does major matter

Hi.

I'm thinking about applying ED to Cornell as an applied math major.

My EC's are some math competitions, violin solo work, orchestra, academic decathlon
(gold medal in math and music btw), and volunteer at hospital.

Is putting math as my major a big turn-off?

thanks

Why would it be a turn off?

IDK cuz al my EC’s are violin-based except qualifying for AIME and some local math contests…

I honestly wouldn’t worried about what your ECs correspond to. I’m not really convinced for general liberal arts majors in A+S that you really need to specialize through ECs as you would for say Hotel, some majors in CALS, HumEc, etc. Just explain your genuine interest in your essay, that will be most important.
