Does Marshall have different admissions counciors/readers?

So I don't really like the person that came to my school to represent USC. I just got the wrong Vibe from her, lol, and she is the admissions councilor that reads apps from my region. If I'm applying to Marshall does she read my app, or is it a different committe/ group of people that read it. I know that the school of cinematic arts has diff people as well.

thanks,

As I understand it your regional rep is the first person to read your application no matter which school you’re applying to. They are also certainly not the only person to review your file either. I believe all apps are first run through the general Admissions Office then “special cases” (e.g., Performance Majors, School of Cinematic Arts) are referred to individual schools. Regardless, unless you had a direct conflict with the regional rep what difference does it make whether you liked her or not?

Well my friend from another state, who is African American, had a Black man come in as his rep. They seemed to get along really well, and apparently the man stayed 30 min late to talk to my friend about life at USC as a minority, how he had identified him as a young man that should apply to a specific scholarship etc. I guess its not that I didn’t like my rep, just that I didn’t have the same connection that my buddy did.

The rep also seemed tired and not too excited to come to my school. My school is a very good private school andd she just seemed w.e. in our presentation. My friend said that his rep was realy excited to go to his public school and he was eager to come visit the high school “since I know we accept several great applicants every year from here.”

You’re reading an awful lot into one 15-30 minute presentation. During recruiting time regional reps are constantly on the road and on a given day they visit from 2 - 6 schools. Assuming even 10 per presentation that’s an average of 40 new faces a day for weeks at a time. Some of those students are just killing time, others are completely clueless about SC (no it’s not a public university) which leaves a few interested attendees.

Did her ‘grumpiness’ affect your opinion of USC? Apparently, and that’s unfortunate. It’s no excuse but maybe your rep was having a bad day, maybe she had a fight with her significant other that morning, maybe your school doesn’t send many high caliber applications to SC. Regardless, at the end of the day, that rep’s job is to review your application based on its merits and take part in the admissions discussion. Asking for a different rep would probably do you more harm than any imagined good. You’re over-thinking it.
