I am looking at applying to universities in my state (Texas) that have strong business schools and I am worried that my level of math will negatively affect my chances of getting accepted into these school as a college freshman.

Currently, I am a junior in Algebra II and next year I will be taking PreCalcus. Throughout high school I have gotten all A's and I have an interest in math; however, I'm not as advanced as other students at my school. Most of my friends are in AP Calc and I feel like I am just so far behind them but I am totally capable of doing what they can do but i am just not there yet. I thought about taking PreCalc over the summer and taking AP Calc next year but I am already taking 4 APs and I don't want to overload my schedule. Will colleges look down at my math?

My ACT was a 31, hoping for a 32 in June, and I received a 29 on the math section. Any advice will be appreciated! Thanks

Your math scores are fine! Good work on the ACT’s. Did you take the SAT’s?

thank you for your quick reply! this is my first post on CC. I haven’t taken the SAT but I was thinking about signing up for the june test but I might just stick to the ACT, which seems to be my stronger test through practice tests.

tbh, you are a little bit behind in math, but as long as you are in honors it shouldn’t matter to much. I am currently in precalc this year, and i am debating honors/ap calc for next year. I have roughly an B in pre calc right now, and would hope to maintain that through next year.

It really depends on what you want to get into. Liberal Arts? Math isn’t as important. But for me trying to go into com sci math is vital.

But a 29 is fine for the ACT’s IMO. I only got a 580 on the SAT math, which is above the average and not by much. If you feel more confident with the ACT’s, stick with them.

Sorry for my tangents. I am just studying for AP Envi Sci now and it sucks and am mad bored :)! Exam manana!

I would take the SAT anyway. I was in a similar situation where I had been doing a ton of SAT prep and had comparatively lower ACT practice tests but my ACT actually ended up being relatively equal (or arguably even a tiny bit higher) than my SAT on the legit test. It could just be luck on my part but you might as well try for the SAT and shoot for the equivalent score. It couldn’t hurt…

good luck with the apes exam! I am taking that next year for my science credit! Yeah I am interested in business, so there’s a lot of math. My school doesn’t offer honors algebra 2 at my campus so I am just in regular…

ccjunior1: I was wondering if I should stick with my plan to take the us history sat subject test in june or take the actual SAT…the schools I am looking at do not require sat subject test but my counselor recommended it to me to stand out from the crowd. If I didn’t take the us history subject test after taking the apush exam, I would have to wait till october to take it or not take it at all…what do you think?

Thank you! What do you have in A2 ATM?

The class is ridiculously easy, I got a 100 last semester and I will get another 100 this one. My teacher is a sports coach so he gives easy homework and lots of extra credit but he is a great teach, straight and to the point. I was thinking about taking PreCal over the summer and take ap calc ab senior year but that would mean taking summer school, not as a high quality learning, and cramming in more than 4 ap classes…I really want to take ap micro/ap macro, ap environmental science, and ap gov but if I took ap calc it would just be too much for me

Tbh, I think shooting for an SAT equal to your ACT to be a good representation in showing that you are well-rounded and able to perform well on two very different tests. If you already take APUSH and get a 4/5, why take a remarkably similar test when it’s not required of you?

That’s just my .02$. Also, it would mean a lot to me if you could chance me back. Thanks and I hope my response helped

Depending on the majors to be quite honest.

honestly I am still unsure on my business major…but management, insurance, international business, or finance…?

If ACT is your thing focus on that one and don’t worry about the SAT. Most schools now take either test and will take your highest score or a Superscore.
If you have determined one is better than the other focus on that test. I know a number of students that were quiet successful in getting based on the ACT.
With respect to UT Austin, the admission process is tougher than ever for those students that are not auto admit and I don’t think anyone knows what happened this year. Kids from our class of 2013 that normally would have gotten in on review were not accepted this year. The class of 2017 included fewer admissions in total and most likely outside the top 8%.
You are an auto admit to TAMU and they have a great school in Mays which is well respected.
Go for all of those you like but be sure to include an affordable option where you are a fit.
