Does Michigan want to see 1st Quarter Grades from EA Applicants?

HS publishes 1st quarter placeholder grades that are weighted with 2nd quarter and midterm exam grades to produce a semester grade. Does Michigan want to see 1st Q grades? If so, does anyone know where to upload them?

Thanks!

Have never heard of them wanting them…because they’re not a real semester grade, you know? I mean, you have to do your finals to get get credit for the class, so what do they really mean? So far, so good? I could be dead wrong on this, of course. I don’t think it would be the first time admissions answered the question if you want to give them a call. Anyone have any recent experience with this one?

Regular admissions would certainly be interested in first semester final grades…but I don’t think EA looks at first quarters.

I guess if you have a burning desire to let them know about first quarter, you could always have an updated transcript mailed to them?

Thanks! @MaryGJ – it is not as though my son has a burning desire to submit the scores, but just wondering if it is standard practice. Our Guidance Dept encourages students to forward their 1st Q grades to the local AO, as a further point of contact and expression of interest, but I think that works better at smaller schools where the applicant has met with the local AO. Also, some SCEA and ED schools require 1st Q grades.

My son had not noticed anything on the Michigan portal or website, but sometimes you need to dig down through layers to locate that sort of info.

@CT1417 if your son’s first quarter grades are outstanding, I would ask Guidance to send. Keep in mind, if he is deferred, they will expect to see grades from the first half of senior year.

My son’s school sent only the full 1st semester grades and did so for every applicant. If you are deferred, Michigan will want them for RD, and if you are accepted, Michigan will want to see them to assure you did not slack off.

My school sent the first quarter grads as a standard practice, I am in a small college prep high school so not sure if their policy is different. I would agree with everyone else. If they are good they can’t hurt, they can only show you aren’t slacking off. My semester grades won’t be until the day before break so hopefully I already know their decision.
