I’m a transfer student and forgot to fill out the CSS profiles for several private schools before the deadline. The net price calculators said they were fairly affordable schools, but I’m not sure if this is still the case without institutional grants. Does most aid come from institutional grants (CSS Profile) or federal grants (FAFSA)?
It depends on the school. But overall, more educational grant and loan money comes from the federal government than from the colleges. If you are applying to schools that require Profile, however, it’s likely that most of the aid money offered to students at those schools is in the form of institutional grants.
Crap, so is CSS profile on a first come, first serve basis like the FAFSA? Or is it over when the deadline’s over?
It’s the school’s money, they can do it however they want. It depends on the school.
If you haven’t submitted your Profile, get it done ASAP.
Get it submitted.
Schools using the Profile award their institutional need based aid based on Profile info. This is what you need to make these colleges affordable.
The FAFSA is primarily used to determine eligibility for federally funded need based aid. The max Grant is $5730 Pell…if you are eligible. Plus a $5500 Direct Loan…and maybe SEOG and work Study. And maybe a Perkins loan.
But the larger institutional grant money is based on that Profile for schools that require the Profile…so get it done…now!
You can contact the schools to find out the implications of a late submission of the Profile.
