Does MSU focus on GPA or ACT more?

cause i did good on the ACT
Composite - 28
English - 29
Math - 26
Reading - 32
Science - 25
Writing - 8

but i have a pretty low gpa - 3.25

and not a lot of extra circulars

spanish club (3 years)
hockey team (4 years, last two as assistant captain)

volunteering here and there, but nothing that really stands out. only big ones i think are -
teaching kids at vbs (vocation bible school)
helping out chene street mission
helping out animal rescues/shelters (specifically, humane society and motor city ferrets)

do you think my act will kinda help my low gpa and what are my chances?

Generally GPA in my experience. I know MANY more people who got in with a higher GPA and lower ACT than the other way around.

Honestly, your chances are kind of reachy. Your GPA is low, and your ACT is right in the middle 50%. You might get deffered but if you do and get a really nice GPA your senior year then you have a nice chance of getting in.

What kind of classes did you take- honors? APs? Etc

i would say MSU focuses a lot more on GPA. i know a lot of people with high GPA’s and not so great ACT scores that have gotten admitted. definitely don’t slack off your senior year. i had a friend who had the exact same ACT score as you and almost the same GPA and she had to submit her second semester grades last year, and since they were very good, she was accepted.

GPA is the first thing they look for. They also look at your curriculum choices and then ACT score. Your composite ACT score is well above average for Michigan State. Your GPA is below average but is not a disqualifier. They may wait to see your first semester grades before deciding. If you come from a good school and have been taking challenging classes, you have a good chance of getting in.
