I'm planning on applying to MSU and was wondering if they give preference to legacy students during admissions. As far as I know, the majority of my aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. went to MSU. At least two cousins, both of my parents, and all of my aunts and uncles I can think of except for one.

In general, public schools don’t give preference. By the way, what MSU are you referring to? I hope you’re aware that MSU can mean several schools.

Oh I should’ve clarified. Michigan State.

No, not likely. Maybe a very, very small bump.

However, legacy only counts if it’s your parents- not extended family.

Gotcha. Okay

It might help you a little bit, but I doubt that the legacy thing would get someone accepted/rejected. On the application they do ask if any of your parents went to MSU.
