Does music supplement help???

First of all, what is the point of it? To show your talent?
I have been playing the guitar for a while so I'm thinking about sending my guitar playing for the supplement. Does this increase my chance of getting in at all?

send in a supplement. if they music faculty thinks that you would contribute musically to the MIT program, then they can advocate for you. this doesn’t get you in, but it can help give your application an additional push, just like with athletics.

Even if the instrument is a guitar? I can’t join the orchestra or the band with it.

yep, even guitar.

Hi, how about other types of music instruments- like of Indian classical music? Does MIT have any faculty who can evaluate such music, or is it not recommended to send in such a supplement? Would it be considered negatively if the applicant sends in such a supplement? Writing a few words about their music interest would hardly do justice to the years of training, practice, playing at various events etc. that the applicant has devoted to this passion. A supplement shows the seriousness of the activity. Please advise. Thanks.

Looks like this is a situation that MIT adcoms may not have faced before?

What is the area of classical music? Vocal or instrumental? Hindustani or Carnatic?
I know somebody who got into a top school with years of hard work in classical dance…

People may be slightly unsure as the admissions office does not review msic supplements. The music department itself is very kind and reviews the supplements for them. Here is the link to how submit a music supplement:

[MIT Music Program: Prospective Students - Admission Supplements](<a href=“Massachusetts Institute of Technology |”>Massachusetts Institute of Technology |)

note how it says:

At the moment we are only able to evaluate supplements in the fields of classical, jazz, and world music performance, as well as classical and jazz composition.

I think if you know enough about music to submit a supplement you should be able to make the call of what your music talents fit into.

ruar - we get plenty of indian music. send it in.

Thank you, all, for your inputs. Much appreciated.

I am not sure if the song I will be playing fits into one of those.
It is called "

yes you may send in literally anything.

Uh oh, I have a feeling some people may take that out of context, haha
