Does my brother have a shot at Harvard?

His stats: (Out of State)

SAT: 780 M 800 V

SAT II:
Bio- 800
Writing- 800
Math IC- 780

ACT: 35

GPA: 4.93 W 4.00 UW

Varsity Basketball, Tennis, and Soccer since 9th grade
President of 4 clubs, including NHS
Senior Class Vice President
500 hours of comm. service at hospital
National Merit Finalist

He got the brains in the family as I struggle for 1400 SAT

Class rank 2 out of 567 at Brophy Prep.

He has about a 80% chance of being accepted if you ask me

I'd say he's got the same chance as everyone else applying there that has the same stats. Really, everyone at Harvard has those stats, and you just have to roll the dice and see if you get lucky.

1580 alone would give him say a 25%, but because he has HUGE leaderership (VP and leader of 4 clubs) and good GPA would boost him alittle bit more.

Being Varsity in 3 sports since Freshmen year is pretty amazing, harvard looks for good athletics with smarts, and he seems to fit that profile.

I think his profile is a little better than an average applicant overall though, alot of applicants i see only score about a 1550ish and is good at 1 varsity sport with good leadership and about same Community service.

Tell your brother to pack his bags for Cambridge ;-)

Your bro has a very good shot. He sounds like a very talented person. Throw him into the mix and see what happens...good luck to the both of you!

ZZ3

Thanks Valdez. I'm most likely going to an in state school or a UC. We'll see what happens. We're twins, but my stats are nowhere near his.

And they probably shouldn't. Two people like that in one family will be too weird, lol. However, I am almost certain that you have your own talents. Also, tell your brother that Harvard is not the match for everyone, tell him to look at other schools before he commits.

ZZ3

My parents would like him to go to Northwestern, so we'll see. It the Harvard prestige that's mesmerizing.

Northwestern, he's in.

damn....smart, athletic, and a leader. i never see that combination...

Once he gets admitted, he will see that almost every has the same 3 qualities (some may only have 2 of the 3). Any kind of leadership position at Harvard will most likely be cut throat, and being a top student now, he may end up in the lower 50% tile. As for athletics, the teams are just so hardcore.

God. So these are the people I'm competing with? ACk... makes my 1480 look like nothing. Oh well, hopefully, Stanford will take me. There's no point in applying to Harvard. I am a minority so that might help. The tragic part is that I'm not underrepresented. Sighs...

heh I had a 1580 and they put me on the waiting list at stanford :(

Anthony, you contribute a whole lot to this board, thanks. Where do you go to school at?

Valdez makes nice contributions as well.

my sat is 1520 (800V and 720M) and im an int'l student app to HYP. should i take it again? if i get a 800M for the second sat, do they take the best of the two scores?

I think I already told you, axfr, your SAT is good enough and you don't need to take it again. Soyez hereux et a bientot (please excuse my spelling, it's been a semester since I have spoken a word of French).

ZZ3

your spelling is just fine ;) thx for the tip. sorry im being redundant. I'm just so nervous. Ive been the best kid in my school my entire life, so if I don't get in...
