does my senior year schedule look okay for competitive/top tier schools?

I’m planning on majoring in international relations/policy and minoring in art history, but that might (and probably will) change.

1- AP English Literature
2- AP Calc AB
3- gym (requirement)
4- AP Chemistry
5- AP macroeconomics
6- AP Comparative Government
7- Latin 2
8- SUPA Spanish (SUPA is basically a college-credit course through Syracuse University)
*i’m also planning on doing an art history independent study; this will be following AP Art history which i’m currently taking.

this schedule leaves me with two free periods. I’m leaning towards taking one more class and then having one free period.
Problem is i have NO idea what else to take. I kind of want to take a relaxing class like painting but i’m not sure how that would fly in college admissions. The only AP electives i have yet to take are AP CompSci and AP Statistics, and i’m not really interested in either of those.

Just because your school offers all those AP’s does not mean you have to take them all. 5 AP’s and a college-level course are more than enough. If you want to balance your schedule out with painting, go for it.

You should take the classes that interest you. Take the painting class if that is really what you want.

It’s a very impressive course load but be prepared to work hard. Your course load looks a lot like my daughter’s and she regretted taking that extra AP class during her senior year. However, she was accepted to most of the colleges she applied to during the early action phase and received quite a few merit scholarships. But I think she would have been accepted at most places if she had opted for one less AP class.

it is more important to do well than to just “impress” the college admissions. 5 AP’s and a college class is pretty solid.

I’d go with the painting class, too. Senior year you should take a class you’re interested in, just for the sake of it. Colleges actually like that you would learn for learning’s sake, just cause.
