Does my situation make it look like I ommited a college transcript?

In the middle of December I submitted an application to a grad school program (a mental health counseling program). The application said to list all previous colleges, so I did that (I listed all colleges I had previously attended)… one month later (one month post-application) I enrolled in three classes at my local community college just for fun/person enrichment reasons. Four months later in May, the program director from the university I applied to called me and offered me a seat off the wait list (I was originally waitlisted). I told him on the phone that I just took community colleges courses for fun recently, and I offered to send in that transcript if needed for their records. he said not to send it in,since it would delay my admission packet and I already meet all program requirements so he doesn’t need it. However, I am having major anxiety about the fact that in the future is it possible for someone to look at my admissions file and find out the community college transcript is missing from my file and they will think I purposely ommited it? Note again, that these community college courses were taken one month after I applied to the program (I took them post-application). However, i still took them before officially starting at the grad program. I’ve heard horror stories of people’s degrees being revoked for omitting information, and I’m nervous that my situation looks like omitting information (even thought I didn’t).

Note: on the community college transcript I took 3 classes. 1 class I got an “A”, the second class a “B” and the third class a “W” (I already took this class and got a C in it when I was a freshman five years ago, I was retaking it to better prepare myself for grad school but then dropped out bc I had a health issue and I was working full time and already had credit for the class anyway). The community college says a 3.5 for the three classes I took. I had a 3.7 overall undergrad gpa for my bachelors degree.

I don’t see a problem. Why don’t you just submit the transcript later, so your record going forward is complete? You are in the program, and the director already said it isn’t a problem. Mountains out of molehills my friend.

Thanks for the advice–I sent the program director an email asking again if I should send in the transcript–he still said not to send it in. i guess I’ll just wait to see if it’s a problem and if someone does ask why the transcript is missing I’ll have email evidence that he said not to send the transcript

You probably will need to eventually have that in your file, so go ahead and send it. What the head of the department tells you is one thing. What the folks in records are required to have on file is another.

Who should I contact about sending it in? Do I just send it to the registrar or should I contact someone to inform them I am sending in the transcript? Thanks

Is it bad if I just let it go and wait for someone to contact me about it? They may never even need me to send it in

Any advice? It would be much appreciated thank you

I worked my way through school. I graduated from a cc and attended 2 other schools before getting my bachelor’s degree from a 4th. I recently returned to college to get a 2nd bachelor’s. The college made me send all my transcripts. If you don’t want a hold on your registration, I’d send them now.

There is no hold on my registration, the program director (who is also in charge of admissions, I didn’t have an admissions counselor) told me not to send in the transcript (he told me this once over the phone, and once over email). I took theses classes after I already submitted my program application (I applied to the program December 2016 and took CC class January 2017) they were taken just for fun, no financial aid was used. I feel like if I sent it in now it would be against what he said to do because he told me twice not to send it

The program director needs the transcripts for admission, but the registrar’s office will eventually need them for your permanent file. Contat them and ask them when it is that you need to get the transcripts to them.

Ok thanks, will the program director see the transcript or just the people in records will see the transcript? The program director will think I’m nuts if he told me twice not to send it in, and then I did it anyway. Why would I do something someone told me not to do, if he thought I’d need it for my records wouldn’t he have told me to send in transcript? The transcript isn’t even being used for credit for the program or anything

The director only cares about records that apply to your admissibility. The records office is the place that has to have official copies of every single transcript of yours for courses completed anywhere before you finish your degree. These student files can be pulled randomly when the auditors come through when the college/university is being reviewed for accreditation, and woe to the records office that has a student file that is determined to be incomplete. At my most recent grad program, my department didn’t give a rip about that six credit summer course transcript that didn’t get sent right away, but the records office sure did. I ended up having it sent twice because even though it was recorded as received the first time, it was mislaid and not in my file when I called to check up on it.

Ok that makes sense, I will email the registrar office tommorow. On this new transcript that will be sent in, I retook a prerequisite class and got a “W” (I originally received a “C” in this class a few years ago at my home institution, which the admissions committee saw and this C counted as the program prerequisite)–however, on this new transcript I will be sending in it says I withdrew from the class I was retaking (I withdrew because I had a medical issue). I’m scared this will look odd if the program director sees it. For example, the program requires me to complete a abnormal psych class. I took the class and got a grade of “C” a few years ago at my home institution where I received my bachelors degree, and then retook abnormal psych later at a CC and got a “W”. My C will still count as meeting the prerequisite right? I was only retaking it because I wanted to better my chances for getting into a different program if I didn’t get into this one

Don’t worry about this W. The CC didn’t think you needed to take the class, so if anyone would ever ask that could be your answer - you registered and started but then found out you didn’t need it.

Thank you so much for your input–I greatly appreciate It!

I think you are getting too concerned about this. This isn’t diffficult at all. All you need to do is request your transcript from the old school (for a small fee probably), and have them send it to the new school. This is normal and happens every day. I doubt anyone is ever going to ask about it. The registrar is the one who needs it. I wouldn’t bother emailing anyone.

So I called someone at the registrars office and explained my situation and he looked up my student account and told me I don’t need to send in the transcript. I don’t know what to do maybe I will just send the transcript? I’m conflicted I have anxiety about this situation and I’m not sure why

I should have put in my 2 cents cuz that’s what I expected. You took some misc courses, after the application point, and…they…dont…care.

They made their admission decision based on the info they needed at the time.

The director told you.
The registrar told you.
But you still have anxiety?? That’s the problem here.

They don’t care. This isn’t life or death.

I always thought it wasn’t an issue but the other people that responded to this post made it seem like I need to send it in and that I must send it in.

We don’t know what sorts of classes, but you said fun.

When you apply, they want to see your performance in all courses. (Though it’s doubtful they’d care about some non academic course at some college. It would have no bearing.)

But you’re in now. Admissions is done and, however you described these extra courses, neither the director nor the registrar needs them for your “record.” You implied here that they’re not part of your current track, you’re not asking for credit toward this new program.

You asked the director twice, then the registrar. Document the conversations, for your own comfort, then move on.

There’s only so much you can ask, be told this info doesn’t matter to your program, and still feel worried.

It’s ok.
