Does my son need to send AP scores before he finds out if he is accepted?

I keep seeing people who have posted their stats with their ED admission decision and they list AP scores. Are scores required for application?

The high school normally sends the grades.

No.

You can, and should, self report your (good) AP scores. The official scores are sent only to the school where you are enrolling.

How do you self report?

I know Northeastern only gives credit for 4’s and 5’s. If he got a 3 on Physics I, is that considered bad? Wouldn’t they assume he got a bad grade if he doesn’t self report that one, but does for his others?

You self report on the Common App in the section where they ask about SAT/ACT test scores. You can select AP scores to report there. I think the general consensus is to report all scores if the majority are 4’s and 5’s. Because, yes they will assume that the unreported score is bad. Since a 3 is passing by AP standards, it’s not horrible.

The typical procedure in my experience is to self-report any score 3 or higher. You self-report all scores usually regardless of expected credit.

Ultimately NEU only gives credit for 4s and 5s, but good to self report scores.
