Does my tuition change if my family decides to move to the state where I'm going to school at?

I applied to the college I’m attending this fall as an out-of-state student, if they move to the state where this school is will my college reconsider me as an in-state student?

It depends on the state and possibly the college. You need to check the residency rules found on that college’s web site.

Also colleges may be wary of families trying to the game the system. Are they actually moving there or will it be a vacation home? Do they have new jobs line up, new house, etc. You don’t want to be caught in a fraud situation. A news story happened awhile ago about something similar, i can’t remember if the dad went to jail or not.

He did go to jail.

Varies by state. Some states require residency for a year before being considered in-state. Residency often requires a permanent address, voter registration, driver’s license, proof of paying state taxes, and so on. Check not only the state but the specific school - often this info is on the web site although it might be buried.

@TomSrOfBoston Thanks for the answer!

Thank you for the replies! And no worries, I just wanted to know because I was actually planning on attending a school in the state I’m in currently, but since my parents had told me that they were considering on moving out-of-state I had to change my plans, since I couldn’t have afforded the out-of-state tuition for my initial college.
