There is little about scholarships for incoming students on their website and according to my FAFSA, my EFC should be 0. My family can’t afford to pay $50,000+ a year for me to study there but I would love to go. My GPA is a 3.6 at a competitive magnet school (all honors and APs/college level courses) and my ACT is a 34 (top 1%). My ECs, essays and recs are all be really good and I received professional help with some of it (not in the writing of my essay, just guidance). Are they going to offer me any major merit scholarships? Are their need-based scholarships good?
Did you run their Net Price Calculator? That should have told you a lot.
Do,you have a portfolio? Usually merit awards are based on the strength of your portfolio. Regardless…I seriously doubt you will receive $50,000 in aid from the New School. It’s just a lot of aid to expect from a school that doesn’t meet full need…and also doesn’t give huge merit awards.
As noted…run their net price calculator.
ETA…here is your former list…as of a couple,of weeks ago. New School isn’t even on your list.
And on another thread, you ask about the service academies??
Bowdoin is a reach and Colby is a safety? I don’t think so. They may not be in the same category for you, but they certainly are not two categories apart (unless you have extremely narrow categories).
Yeah, I ran the net price calculator. It says that they don’t give me ANYTHING
And also, @thumper1 I just applied a few days ago bc New School is rolling admissions. And yes, I’m interested in ROTC but am okay if schools don’t have it because I am thinking about joining USNA after getting my bachelor’s degree. And @BelknapPoint I used Parchment and it said that my chance of getting into Colby is significantly higher and my guidance counselor told me Parchment is reliable
USNA as in U.S. Naval Academy? You don’t “join” USNA after getting a bachelor’s degree; you get appointed to USNA to earn a bachelor’s degree (and a commission as an officer in the United States Navy or Marine Corps).
@BelknapPoint wait I thought I could enlist after college as long as I’m not 23 yet and I would start off as a first year.
If you’re talking about attending the U.S. Naval Academy, the answer is a resounding NO.
@BelknapPoint but it doesn’t say anything about prior college attendance just that you can’t be 23 or older http://www.usna.edu/Admissions/FAQ.php
@BelknapPoint If anything, I can just join OCS.
You don’t “just” join OCS.
You need to figure out what you want- OCS is not a back up plan.
What is the appeal of Parsons? Maybe if you start there we can help you.
You need to learn a LOT more about the military and the service academies before you make any more decisions that include them.
Parsons doesn’t have tons of money to hand out in the form of aid.
I hope you have affordable options in your mix.
You have financial need? The vast majority of schools on your list meet full need by their definition…if they calculate you have need.
Your ACT score is fine. Your GPA is a bit low for all of these…except Colorado. Which CO? Getting accepted will be your first hurdle. CO does not meet full need.
Did you apply to any instate public universities in your home state?
And something isn’t right. If your EFC is $0, then even Parsons would have had the full Pell Grant of $5800, and a Direct Loan of $5500 for your freshman year.
No, you can’t “just join” OCS. There is a qualification and application process, and it is very competitive.
