Well…considering Economics and Government are the two most popular concentrations at Harvard, it’s not that surprising.

For all admissions purposes it is.

It’s still early and some interviews are still being scheduled, I would think…

For those of you internationals, I called harvard to ask a list of interviewers in China, but they said “no interviews in China this year.”

please read: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/harvard-university/703400-chances-chances.html

“I have found it curious that most college interviewers seem to have majored/concentrated in the social sciences and humanities.”

Makes sense. They are the alum most likely to have the interest in and time to interview.

Just posting a follow-up. My D had been wondering why she wasn’t called for an interview when another kid from her school had finished interviewing weeks ago.

It turns out they had the wrong contact phone number (clerical error at the local Harvard club). They’d been calling the wrong number for weeks. How or why they finally figured out the correct number, I do not know, but when they did call, they wanted to do the interview right away…like, that same evening, after school, on a weeknight. They were very apologetic and admitted that it was totally their own fault about the delay.

Now we’re speculating whether they had been contacted by the admissions office with a question about why she hadn’t been interviewed…and wondering whether it is a good sign?

The local Harvard club gets the contact info from Admissions directly. Your local club is trying to make sure everyone gets interviewed so probably someone checked out your address to see if the phone number was correct; usually people also email so it’s surprising you never got an email from the assigned interviewer. This attempt to contact your daughter means that your local Harvard club is doing their best to get all their local candidates interviewed; no more, no less. You’d be surprised at the number of students who provide email addys they don’t actively use, or phone numbers without voicemail. That leaves contacting the student’s guidance office in order to track a student down. Anyway, good luck on the interview!
