My daughter was accepted at a local day school, and with the acceptance, there was no mention or offer of financial aid. At the advice of a friend with a child already in the school, I emailed the school to ask if there were any other steps we needed to complete in the financial aid process so that my husband and I could make a decision for the fall. I haven't heard anything back from that email.

Should I take this to mean that no financial aid will be offered? Or perhaps financial aid letters come separately?

I am completely new to this entire private school process, so forgive me if my question is a little naive or has been answered elsewhere.

Thanks in advance!

In my experience, if the FA decision didn’t come with the acceptance letter, it was at least mentioned that the FA decision would come separately… This happened to us twice…the FA board was late in the process but it was mentioned in the letter that a decision will be following in a few days.

I would have done the same thing and called them. Hopefully you will hear from them soon. Btw if no FA would be offered, there would have been a letter stating that FA will not be offered for whatever reason.

NYCMomof3 is correct: if the answer is no, you’d get a letter telling you that. If you didn’t get any info at all, and no response to your email, I would guess they’re still trying to finish making their FA decisions. I’d probably give them a week or so to get that second letter out. But if you don’t want to wait that long, or still don’t hear anything, I’d pick up the phone, call them, and ASK.

Our experience as well. FA almost always has come separately and usually 2 weeks after. I would take Dodgersmom advice to just be patient a bit longer.

I would be patient had they mentioned FA in the acceptance letter…or responded to my email. Sans those two things I would call.

Thank you for the responses.

My husband and I will be visiting the school this coming week, so we’ll ask then if we don’t get an answer tomorrow. I hope that we get some sort of answer since that absolutely decides if we send the deposit check!

At our day school acceptance letter (and call) came a few days before financial aid letter. We didn’t get excited or make any plans until we knew if it would be a viable option for our family. I’d wait a couple more days or just call to find out timing of those financial aid letters.

Why not just call the school and ask?

My husband and I visited the school again for a tour (since we never had the chance to go together during the application process), and I received part of my answer. Financial aid decisions are in the mail, so I’ll be getting it soon.

Thanks for the feedback on this thread. Much appreciated.

Justayo I hope your FA news that’s coming snail mail is good news!!

NYCMomof3, I hope so, too! Thanks!

I have a fabulous update – my daughter received enough financial aid to cover nearly 90% of the school’s tuition! So the waiting paid off for us. :)

Congratulations!!!

That’s WONDERFUL NEWS!!!

Wow! @Justayo,

That’s fabulous! Congratulations. What a load off your shoulders! :)

Thank you, all! We could not refuse the school’s generous offer, so our deposit check is now in their hands. My daughter is excited and nervous, as this will be her first time attending school – she’s been homeschooled from the beginning. I’m personally itching to shop sales for her new school uniform. LOL
