Hey xxj3uuaxx I just got waitlisted at NU aswell. I desperately want to go to NU, and it is by far my first choice. But I have a question for all of you. I recieved admittance to WashU and their giving me a large scholarship package- should I inform NU of this? I mean would that at all help my chances of getting off of the waitlist? Just a thought.

Hmm, I thought WashU and Northwestern were like borderline clone schools
both in the midwest, and both accepting the same kind of people
me and my neighbor (our ranks 25 and 23/938 respectively) both recieved likelies from WashU and got into NU

GreatNate48--I don't think pushing for more finaid would help you get off the waitlist, the best thing is to write them a letter higlighting your resume and any improvements or additional activities you have done since then. Plus, NU really is not generous in finaid... so it may make a bad impression.

Not likely - considering that admissions, a couple of years back, miscalculated the estimated yield rate and the administration had to scramble to find housing for a bigger than expected freshaman class.

"Wash U also waitlisted many more students this year, because they did not want to encounter the same problem they had last year. Last year a higher percentage of students who were offered admissions accepted a spot at Wash U. Their yield was higher than it typically had been. They ended up with more freshmen students than they had rooms for, resulting with them needing to move upperclassman around."

Interesting, esp. since for its acceptance rate - WashU's yield rate is on the low side.
