I just want to verify this before I scrap the application. There is no way that we can pay >$40,000 per year.

Why don’t you call their financial aid office and ask them? A lot of schools that are need blind to for US undergrads applying as freshmen, do not extend the need blind policy to transfers and/or international students. They may out and out not have any financial aid for international students. But I’ve also heard that Canadian students sometimes have a different status at some schools in terms of admissions and aid. But none of this is going to help you in your particular stiuation as a Canadian transfer student wanting to know if there is any chance of getting financial aid. Ask, and then run your numbers through the NPC if there is a possibility and see if you qualify at your family income and asset level, the school says that you have a chance of getting money.

I didn’t find anything on their website that indicated the answer, but keep in mind that they didn’t make a distinction between Canadians and other Internationals in the RD round, and that competition for financial aid is fierce. They are “need aware” so they take need into account when making your decision, so I probably wouldn’t apply as a transfer unless its your top choice. I would also suggest calling the finaid office to make sure.

Need Blind- this is an admissions term. It means that the school
Does NOT consider financial need when considering admissions. It has NOTHING to do with the eventual awarding of need based aid. MOST universities are need blind.

Meets Full Need- this is a financial aid term. It means that IF accepted, the school pledges to meet the full need (as the school calculates it) for all accepted students.

This student should be looking for school that meets full need. He is looking for money.

Meets full need and Need blind are not the same thing.

Now…if he is concerned that his financial situation will impact his admissions, he needs a school that is BOTH need blind for admissions AND meets full need for all accepted students. Last I heard, there were only 6-8 colleges that are both need blind and meet full need for international students.
