So I don’t have any awards or significant accomplishments to mention when I am applying to colleges. Will that hurt my chances of getting into competitive schools?
I don’t want to make an excuse, but I think it is worth mentioning that I am low income.
Also, I’ll be applying to questbridge, so would it also hurt my chances as a questbridge applicant who doesn’t have any awards?
Would having awards bolster your application? Sure. I’m sure there are Questbridge applicants that have awards. That being said, just be you and put your best foot forward.–spend time refining and polishing your essays and every part of your application. Focus on what you have accomplished. Good luck!!
It’s definitely not a positive aspect of your application, but the negative thing would be not trying to find other things to compensate for your lack of awards.
These might include your SAT/ACT scores, your school GPA, your essays, etc.
You need to use every second to try to bolster your profile with some impressive ECs. Never give up in your studies and your ECs and you’ll be fine (and that’s discussing universities and QuestBridge).
@jinxorchestra@svlab112 Thanks!
Would you consider being a questbridge college prep scholar as an award/notable accomplishment?
How about winning a scholarship to a summer program? (Doing the program for free while most others pay for it)
I would consider it a very important aspect of your application. It would grant you access to A LOT of opportunities, so I guess my answer is a yes. As for the summer program, it definitely is! Of course, it depends on what the program really is, and what you did to win that scholarship
@jinxorchestra I wrote 2 essays for it, do you think it is worth mentioning in the awards section? Or does that seem like I’m trying to stretch my accomplishments?
