Does not having the idea SAT score when applying in Aug. effect admission into major?

I did poorly on the SAT which I took for the first time in June, 1760. I'm planning on studying and making at least a 2050+ in October when I take it. I believe that's the last time you can take it, and make the deadline. BUT, I DO plan on submitting my application by September...
I'm going to list business as my first choice major.
Will them not getting my SAT score AS SOON AS I APPLY effect admission into McCombs? Or does it not matter since they sit down and look at them all at once... I'm just concerned that they'll see my original SAT score and immediately reject my first choice major... Someone please help?

Many thanks.

ALSO I'm already in the top 4% of my class, so I would get into UT... Just concerned about the McCombs.

When I applied, I was told it was ok as long as I took the test in the same month as I had applied… I would call the McCombs Undegraduate Office and ask them when’s the last date you could retake the SAT. Otherwise, if I were you, I might hold off on applying until SAT score was at least 1900-2000. Did you take the ACT?

No, I haven’t taken my ACT… I took a practice test and did bad, 25, I guess if I studied I could do better? I just really wanna focus on gettin’ my SAT up since that’s what I’m used to taking and am takin’ Testmasters for… Is it a disadvantage to not have an ACT score at all?

Only reason I was gonna apply so early was because I heard the earlier you apply the better. After talking to admissions a couple of months ago they said the last time you can take it was in October, that would mean not getting a full application in til November when the scores come back…

I suppose that if they do a wholistic review all at once then applying late, in November, won’t hinder my chances? I guess I just had the mentality of applying earlier the better, like they’d review my application then I’d send my October score in and they’d see it and reconsider me for McCombs AS opposed to applying with ALL docs in November and them seeing me as lazy and late… But now that I think of it I wouldn’t want a ****ty SAT score in September totally damning my chances of McCombs completely…

IDK HELP

I would just study the SAT and focus mainly on that, but take both the SAT and the ACT. A 25 on the ACT is average, so it really couldn’t hurt you to take the ACT and submit your scores. I think you should wait until your score is available to submit your application, but you can start filling out the application, just don’t submit it yet. Also, since you are in the top 4%, I thought that it was automatic admissions to any department. I wouldn’t worry too much since, UT really look at class rank and since it seems like you have a good class rank, you should get in McCombs.

No, either is fine. I don’t want to make you think that applying super late is okay, but as for me, I applied at the very very last minute as UT/ McCombs was not exactly my first choice at the time (don’t get me wrong, I love UT now haha). I was pretty much right outside of their automatic rank acceptance cut too… But I ended up being accepted for the fall. Pretty sure it was mostly my test scores that pulled me through (pretty good score on both SAT and ACT). I never personally took testmasters but I would just spend the rest of my time on exam club because it helps SO much… And I only took it for a summer. My EC’s and essays were pretty good, but nothing too spectacular.

Then again, I also have a friend that was accepted as well but with a ranking of somewhere around 15-20% and an SAT score a little higher than yours… But they had very business oriented EC’s and pretty good essays.

So you’re right, McCombs is definitely striving to be more holistic in their process but I have no doubt that SAT/ ACT test scores are extremely important to them… Maybe even more so than how early you apply. It all depends on how well you think you can do on the SAT.

Applying early will not help you. You might get accepted a little earlier if your stats are EXCEPTIONAL, but other than that do yourself a favor and give yourself time to make a great application. Late October / early November would probably be good.

I think test scores are taken into consideration much more than when you submitted your application. And, as people mentioned already, those that get into McCombs and BHP early are the ones with spectacular stats - both rank wise and test score wise. I’m with you in that my class rank is decent, but my test scores are a bit low. Hopefully I have some other things working for me. But, I’ve also heard that the transcript is important. The classes you took, the work load, and how you did (as well as your gpa/rank on it) are much more important since 3 years of work is a larger sample size than one Saturday morning test.

Bump, please?

You may want to find out who is your admission counselor if you have not done so and contact him/her for answer to your question. If there is an admission office in your area, call the office.
