Does not sending in 1st semesters senior grades harm your chances?

My senior grades have not been as well as I would like. I am taking harder classes this year, and while I am still as dilligent as I have been before, my grades don't portray all of my effort. Anyone reading my application would say that during senior year, I got a bit lazy (unfortunately, I didn't). My average from the past two quarters (assuming how I'll do during the second quarter) is probably around an 88 when my overall GPA is a 93.
By not sending my first semester grades, am I harming my chances?

at UD info session they said that mid year grades and senior schedule were an important factor in admissions and one of the reasons why UD notifies in March rather than January.

My D’s hs sends midyear reports automatically to all schools I am not sure if all schools do this. At your hs do you have to specifically request sending midyear grades?

I would guess that your application may not be regarded as complete by UD if midyear grades are not sent. you may want to call admissions office to check. .

I didn’t think it was optional. I agree with pamom. You should call.

I would agree with the comments from pamom59. I doubt UD would view your application as being complete without the mid term HS grades. It is unfortunate that your grades went down a little. Perhaps you might want to consider writing to the admissions office to explain the situation to them in detail so they do not get the impression you were just slacking off in your Sr. year. If nothing else this would show them that you are taking a responsible postion in explaining the situation to them and show them that you still have a major interest in being considered for admission (I would add a paragragh or two delineating why you wish to be a Blue Hen and include how you feel you could be an asset to the University). I believe they would look favorably on this approach (but of course I can’t guarantee results). Hopefully the “harder” courses you mentioned were AP/Honors courses. I would recommend doing this ASAP after your grades have been submitted.
Best wishes to you.

so just to clarify, UD requires the mid year report or else the application will be viewed as incomplete? cause im not sure if i should send one in and my hs said if they dont require it, we should not send it.

Thank you everyone-- yes that was very helpful.
The classes I’m having trouble with are AP Biology and Physics. I had a 78 in AP Biology first quarter (that’s without weighting) and an 83 in physics. The 83 isn’t disastrous, but this quarter it will definitely be in the 70s. AP Biology will most likely remain the same or go up to an 80.
Either way, I feel that my grades are a poor reflection on the student that I am. And, udel is my top choice. I think I’ll listen to everyone’s advice and give the admissions office a call.

^ those classes are SO had - im sure thats under consideration. dont worry too much

hard*************

I just had an online chat with admissions prior to reading this thread. I asked if midterm grades should be sent. They advised that they review applications without the midterm grades and if they want them they will request them direct from the high school.

Officially have to send my mid-year grades in. Not happy about it, but hopefully it won’t negatively affect
my application. Good luck to all!

Did they request your midterm grades? If so how- by mail or email? I am also wondering whether to send mine.

My guidance counselor received a list of students required to send mid-year grades.
I think it may depend on what college within udel that you applied to, considering everyone I spoke to have me a different answer.

has given me a different answer **

Has anyone that has had to provide mid year grades received a decision yet ?

If you are an OOS applicant decisions will be coming out in about 3 weeks. Based on last year I would suggest beginning to check online at your My Blue Hen site beginning Friday ,March 9. However only the mailed acceptance packet is official. Good luck.

Has anyone had any experience with financial aid at UD ? I am an in state and got accepted. But it will all depend on the cost. Wondering if they offer any grants for in state students.
