So i have an ACT with a 34 in math, and one of the Subject tests I have taken is a 710 on my math 2s. Id rather just show the 34 and not send in the math 2, but would only sending one ACT score kind of seem like I didnt put alot of effort in?? Im having trouble weighing the benefits and detriments.

Well, if you think about it, if there are two applicants evenly matched, but one has good SAT 2 / AP Scores, who is going to get in? It won’t create a disadvantage for you, but could create an advantage for everyone who is submitting good scores (which, I suppose, is a disadvantage). 710 isn’t that bad (actually a solid score, though not amazing), though of course it depends on which schools you are going for.

AP scores are not required for admission to any college in the U.S. (not even the Ivies), and even selective schools like Stanford don’t require SAT II’s. From the decision threads from previous years, there have been people accepted to top universities without submitting AP or SAT II scores. I’d report the 710 if I were you, though – although it isn’t too amazing, it’s definitely a solid score. Alternatively, you could retake it in one of the upcoming months (October, November, December) if you think you can improve.

Well it’s not going to necessarily take away from my 34 ACT math will it??? That’s why im kind of apprehensive… By the way, im going for Boston COllege, Marist, Brown, and maybe Cornell, and a few more… What about in that case?

Nope, not at all. A 710 is still fine for those schools (check their results threads), especially if you also scored higher on other subject tests.

I think you need to consider your intended major in this case - If you plan to do engineering, you might want to consider not sending it, as a lot of applicants will have 800s and other very high scores. If your doing liberal arts, you should send it.

In the end, I would probably send it no matter what. As people said, it isnt a bad score.

@ NCBoy1: Even if the OP applies for an engineering or science-related major, an 800 on the Math II subject test isn’t necessary, although it certainly looks good. A senior at my previous high school had a 720 on his Math II test and was accepted to Cornell as an engineering major.

To clarify my last post… your best bet right now is to retake the subject test in October/November/December if you feel like you can do better. There’s not really much required; you just have to study a bit more and really grasp the formulas/concepts. The fact that you got a 34 ACT math proves that an 800 on Math II is doable for you.
