Does Notre Dame ever offer january acceptances...

...due to anticipated dorm space opening mid-year? (Student go abroad, drop out, move off campus, etc.)

I'm pretty sure they don't as a general matter, and I'm confident they won't this year, because last year's Freshman class was overenrolled; many of the dorms are already so tight on space that any vacancies would be taken up immediately.

My son is a Freshman living in Morrissey, and the rector indicated that they were trying to figure a way to recover the common rooms next year (rooms between two doubles, or as part of a quad) which are occupied by 33 students this year.

Unless, of course, you can throw a football like Jimmy Clausen and want to enroll in time for spring practice.

haha im in two classes with jimmy.

anyways, the acceptance are not based on rooms. as you know, there was an over-enrollment last year.

and in the matter of students going abroad, dropping out, moving off campus, there are always common rooms to be recovered, people desiring to move back on campus, transfer students, etc)

sorry.

I don't believe they accept people up front for the spring semester, but sometimes they take freshman transfers off the waiting list.

I think you must be right Shellzie--the double across the hall from son's room had 1 vacancy after fall semester. The guy in that room transferred to Morrissey and in his place was accepted a freshman transfer from Creighton.

So he attended Creighton for the fall semester, and immediately applied for january admission at Notre Dame? Is that what you mean?

That doesn't sound right to me, I have NEVER heard of ND accepting a transfer after one semester. I could be wrong, but that would surprise me.

However, what I do know is it IS possible for freshmen to Early Enroll like Jimmy Clausen (you don't have to be a football player, if you graduate early it can happen, but it is RARE). I have never heard of ND saying you are accepted for the spring semester when you applied for the fall semester, however.

I don't know if he was on a waiting list like Shellzie indicated or what. All I know is that one of the guys transferred to Morrissey--leaving one person in a double. He thought he was not going to have a roommate for spring semester, but came back after the holiday break to find this guy moving in. Son indicated that new guy "transferred" from Creighton. Maybe Shellzie knows more about this waiting list thing. I thought it kind of odd myself--why would you attend a school for one semester and then transfer in during the middle of the year? And no, he does not play any type of sport, that son knows of. I kind of get the feeling that ND does a lot of tweaking that we do not know about~~ and perhaps they do not want us to know about!

Notre Dame does take a SMALL number of freshmen off the WL in January. A kid from my dorm is a freshman transfer.

It may be a new thing since we haven't been able to take anyone off the waitlist for the last few years but there are kids they really want to get in. It wouldn't surprise me, but I don't think it was happening before...It could be new or I just may have been oblivious, both are very possible, lol. I do trust you guys though.

Notre Dame definitely does accept ppl off the waitlist for spring semester, my next door neighbor is one of them.

Hmmm...inteeresting. I am just wondering when these kids are notified? Is it during the summer when they are on the waitlist? Or in the fall, when they have already enrolled elsewhere? I would think they would have to wait until late fall to really know how many spots are opening up, but that doesn't really make sense...
Thanks though, you guys.

I think they are informed while they are atending their first semester somewhere else.

Only January enrollees I am aware of are the guys who started in January, graduating high school a semester ahead of their classmates. One is a quarterback, not sure what positions the others play.

I'm not aware of them pulling in any freshmen in January, but I know they accept transfers and re-admits mid-year.

I'm pulling for you, sunshadow!
