Pretty implicit from the title. I have been hearing a couple of people talking that when you apply, NYU checks your facebook to see if you have anything suspicious on there. I actually had a classmate who changed his name to prevent colleges from looking!

i can't see there being too much truth to that. NYU has so many applicants..

facebook rule to go by......make everything private unless they are your friends and make sure that you have a presentable profile pic

I have heard that ADCOMS do look at facebook if they need deciding factors in choosing applicants. I can't stress enough the importance of keeping things private and only for friends to see.

why would you put anything super incriminating on facebook anyway?

that just seems excessively stupid to me.

THEY CAN SEE UR FACEBOOK EVEN IF IT IS PRIVATE!!! In the facebook agreement, it says that FB is allowed to release ur info to 3rd parties, so NYU is that 3rd party and can request access to ur account.

I have talked to people who are family friends who work in admissions offices. THEY LOOK! The only way you can keep them from seeing ur FB is to change your name.

But, there should be bad stuff on your FB anyway. If it is there, that is stupid. Anyone can see it.

Because people do. Have you ever looked and seen some of the pictures? You would be aghast.

I read the entire thing and this is not true.

I have seen them. It's still stupid.
end.

All 38,000 applicants are screened for facebook and myspace.

lol good thing that I dont have one...not against it or anything, im just too lazy to make one and now im glad i didnt after hearing all of this

Yeah, I just erased like hundreds of photos from my facebook, and totally changed absolutely everything, just to make myself look like a complete angel. Actually now that I look back at erasing everything, I regret it because none of the photos were terrible and now i have to go back and add everything back again. As long as you have a presentable profile picture, and you don't have any swear words, you are fine. ( One of my friends had a lot of underage partying, and he got denied from schools that were his safety, so this is a big deal.)

lol i always laugh when i see that people put up incriminating pictures of themselves on facebook. ooooooo you're soooooo bad.

You're joking, right?

haha I don't see why I would be joking, I am just wondering, and no one except the college administrators know exactly...................
