I read somewhere that NYU and UVA generally dislike IB, and stories of qualified candidates with IB under their belt getting rejected. NYU is one of my top schools, and I was originally planning to get all A’s in the IB program to bring up my low ~3.58uw. Is it true that NYU and other colleges potentially prefer AP? If I got very good SAT scores and Extracurriculars could I get into Stern/CAS/Tandon with mostly IB courses? Thanks
bump anyone?
I don’t know much about IB but from what I’ve read it’s supposed to be more difficult than AP? Is that right?
@sgopal2 I’m a full IB diploma student so I’m taking all my classes IB level, plus a mandatory Theory of Knowledge class, a 4000 word extended essay/thesis paper, and a CAS project throughout the 2 years. I never took AP but from what I hear I would say IB is much much more of a commitment because it spans 2 years, has a few important IB projects and papers required for each class that count toward your final diploma grade.
I’ve actually heard the opposite. That a lot of top schools are well aware of the rigors of IB and find it to be superior to the AP system. For the reasons mentioned above, I think you are actually in a good position. As long as you get good grades, I think NYU (and other top schools) will understand.
