Does NYU reject without consideration for other programs?

To be honest, I feel that were I to be applying to CAS I would be a shoe in for NYU (91.24 and a 2200 with a 760 in math + strong extracurriculars) but because I am applying to stern, I am terrified. I did check off the box on the common app asking if im interested in being consdered for other schools. My question is will they outright reject if I do not get into Stern? Because people's program on the Albert have changed from their initial choice to Poly/LSP/CAS and I'm left wondering since mine has no...i'm either in or I've been altogether rejected from NYU...can anyone offer some advice

“If we are unable to offer you admission to the school, college, or program on our New York campus that you have selected above, we may consider you for alternate programs with your permission. If you are applying for Early Decision admission, you will not be bound by the Early Decision agreement if offered admission to an alternate program but not your primary program of interest. Instead, you would simply accept or decline your admission within 25 days of being offered admission. Would you like to be considered for admission to an alternate school, college, or program on the New York campus?” (Common App)

Since you chose “yes”, you probably wouldn’t be outright rejected, unless you were rejected from the alternate school as well. I’m not sure how they decide what your alternate school will be.

what concerns me is that my school hasnt changed yet…maybe i’m selling myself short but I am a bit worried

I’m in the same position :confused: 34 ACT, 780 Math II + strong extracurriculars and I think a 4.0 for GPA? Not sure but I know my UC GPA is 4.0 UW :). Personally, I think we do get considered for other programs although not for ones in CAS I think.

@theworker…well I hope to be considered for cas if not stern, I know i’m in the middle 50 for stern but thats not always enough…if I don’t get into stern and I get into any but CAS…its probably off the list. But an outright rejection would be terrible!

I’ve known kids offered Poly when asking for Stern. CAS … I don’t know.

@cptofthehouse so should i be taking it as a positive sign if I have yet to have a program change on Albert?

@cptofthehouse
Yea I think especially if you applied for finance at Stern since NYU poly has finance and risk engineering as opposed to other Stern majors.

IMHO I think it’s a good sign…

@xomom11 I really hope so!

on what basis is it a good sign?

well, my logic is that if you checked off that you would like to be considered for other programs, and people’s “program” box in the albert has changed from stern to poly or LSP but yours remain Stern, logically you have not yet been rejected from stern ? so either you have been accepted, or rejected from the university all together (Which seems unlikely since most Stern applicants are above average for the rest of NYU’s schools)

I posted a thread similar to this asking why Albert changed my program from Stern to Poly. I emailed an admission’s counselor yesterday and his reply was this:

Unfortunately, Albert will constantly be in flux and not 100% accurate this week as a result of final decisions being processed by our system. Please just ignore what Albert says and wait for your final decision on Friday.

Warm regards,
Billy Sichel

Just thought I’d share with you all.

^Well thats a bit worrisome. Guess we all have to wait and see

^^
There’s no way they’d admit the program change means anything. They would essentially be telling you if you got in or not before the official notification date.

But most (if not all signs) from previous threads point to an acceptance to an alternative school instead of your first pick.

But would a program change actually mean you’re in anyway? Wouldn’t it just mean you’re being CONSIDERED for another program, after not getting into your first? So they can still accept/reject you from the other program? I don’t know that it necessarily means you’re automatically in… it depends on how they consider you/the admission process. Good luck to everyone!

@andrew not sure,
But for me it went hand-in-hand with the FA change theory where my aid tab revealed a 2015 slot the same exact time that my program was switched. So in my case, it looks like I’m in. But who knows 100% anyway? Gotta wait til tomorrow!

I’m reading the tea leaves…

@sfxchris good luck!!

For anyone wondering…I was wait-listed by stern. So since i technically wasn’t rejected, I guess they are not considering me for another program
